Thanks for "atoning" but it was not you. And FWIW I largely agree with your post. It is similar to G-d's reaction to Cain's killing of Abel. It was the denial more than the act that got Cain in trouble, since Abel may have given Cain ample reason to be furious.

Though I wrote the OP in about 15 minutes I put a lot of thought and love into the post.
I saw that as you turned your attention from yourself, to God and others. The world needs more of that these days.
What was the first thing that happened after Adam and Eve ate that fruit. All of their attention was on themselves. And they couldn't see anything past themselves. In God's judgement on the serpent there, you will find the words, that open their eyes to see past themselves, to sharing life, having a child and atonement.

It says in judgement upon the serpent, that he will strike his heel and the seed of the woman will crush his head. The birth of a child. It changed all the focus of the moment, and gave them something to look forward to. God's blessing of; be fruitful and multiply did not die with them.
