The main thing that religion gives is a sense of purpose in life. If you don't have a sense of purpose, you're less likely to do those healthy lifestyle habits in the first place.
Yes, you can get that through other means, in theory. Certainly true on on an inviditual level.
In practice, it works out badly when applied across societies at large. Most people have a deep need for something sacred in their lives. Jonathan Haidt talks about this. That's what Social Justice Warriors on college campuses are about.
So you are against social justice and equality.

So any group that is not religious is a religion that does mass killings.
There seem to be a lot of folks out there who are unable to comprehend that atheism is not a belief system or religion. We simply do not believe your god exists. That's all. We are not a united force following a doctrine. We are absent of a doctrine. We have no theistic doctrine. Is that so hard to understand?
A lot of mention has been made on all the killings done in the name of atheism but just have a look at that book which is the topic of this thread - is it not an attempt to demonize and instill hatred toward atheists? And that by a religionist. Right? An example of religionist trying to kill atheists so to speak because that could be the end result.
Atheists do not go around getting worked up about what other people believe but this guy clearly is.
Religionists do indeed commit mass killings in the name of their religion. The Catholic Church is guilty of such atrocities and not for the sake of power. They already had power. They just used it to torture and murder groups whom they considered heretics or believers of other than Christianity.
One can look these up;
Quote:
State-sanctioned murder of Christians by pagans until Christianity became the official religion.
State-sanctioned murder of pagans by Christians until there were no more pagans left.
Of particular note are numerous massacres of pagans by Christian mobs in the fourth and fifth centuries CE.
The state in question was the Roman empire which was not atheist. It was pagan until it became Christian.
And by the way, Jesus was executed by religious folks - just not Christians.
