Absolutely not. It is up to the individual whether or not to belong to a religious community. However, you can certainly have an excellent relationship with God without membership.
Is it necessary to be part of a religious community in order to fully experience a relationship with God?
I don't believe it is. I know a number of people who have a very close relationship with God who are not part of a religious community. I do believe that it depends on the individual and the persons need for community.

In my opinion "no"..a religious community is mostly the works of man with his rules, rituals and personal interpretations..Since I have come out of religion, I have found my knowledge, understanding, and love of Him has grown beyond anything I imagined before..

The way David Aikman proposed this question was from a different direction than I have heard before. check it out at The Delusion of Disbelief
