So just in case you don’t know, yes, women do have rights in Islam.

Unfortunately not many people talk about it. Not quite sure why. But here are a wifes rights according to Islam:

-Her husband must give her dowry. She may ask for anything from money, house, car, clothes, etc. If he doesn’t give dowry, the marriage is not valid.
-She has the right to choose whether she wants to work or not. Her husband cannot ask her to join the workforce, that is a sin for him.
-He cannot ask her to assist pay bills, even if she is making more money than him.
-It is the man’s duty to be the provider for both his wife’s and children’s expenses.

Any financial help that she chooses to provide is actually considered a favor. She is not required to help financially at all, even if she does work. Not following these rules may result him to going to hell. What is your opinion on this?

For more information, you can watch his video. It’s very interesting. This Islamic scholar says that Muslim women have been complaining that their husbands are now asking them to get jobs. Which is making it difficult to manage children/family life.

In the relationship forum, a woman posted about this. She complained that Muslim men were not following the rules of their religion.

How do I feel about this as an American? I would like to know the rights of men. If I had a son, I would advise him to not get into a relationship like this.

Why shouldn't this topic be discussed in the main R&S forum?

I don't have an opinion yet. I am still wondering if these are some of a woman's rights or all of a woman's rights?

Fact is, in Islamic nations, women are treated pretty horribly. As are gay people. But you won't get a lot of folks to talk about that in America because it's political in nature.

That said, my desire is not to take this into the political realm, so I'm stopping here.

How does a religion grant civil “rights” to anybody?

We live under the law of Man.
