I am from Turkey and Tanrı means God in Turkish. However muslims in Turkey don't use that word since they believe unique name of God must be used, which is Allah.
A christian or a deist will use the word Tanrı instead of Allah in Turkey.
Christians in Arabic speaking countries refer to God as Allah.
I don't think God cares what name you use for Him.
Allah is an unique name while God is not. And non-arab muslims use the word Allah instead of refering to it as God in their language so they do care.
Edit:
As I said, Tanrı means God in Turkish but muslims use the word Allah in Turkey because it is an unique name of God in Islam. Many are against the word Tanrı, which means God in Turkish. The reason is, Allah is a specific God while Tanrı (God) is a general term.
In Old Greek Religion, Zeus is a God too but Zeus and Allah are different Gods.

"God" is not a name...nobody or nothing is named "God".
"God" is a title, a descriptor...like "King", "Hero", "Friend", "Doctor", etc.
You got the difference between God and Allah.
