This thread has gotten derailed. And it's mostly just digs at me and accusations. *Yawn* doesn't anyone have any proof of a god? No? Well then, keep right on making your accusations and I'll have to keep responding likewise.
Or, you can ask legitimate questions of atheists here. That IS the name of the thread, you know. "Ask An Atheist....?"
I'm waiting for a proper response to that. I've gotten great responses from a Buddhist and others who are genuinely nice and wanted to share their story. There are people who are curious about it and you unhappy and mean posters are ruining this thread. If you have something to say to me personally, say it in a DM.
That's the nature of the beast here when someone is so truthful, reasonable and honest and these miserable posters can't stand it. Moving right along with my thread and it's good intentions. Maybe someday I'll get responses that are true to the thread without criticizing, making hollow accusations and just dumping all over me personally.
Not that I can't take it but I don't enjoy having to rail on people but I certainly will if it's warranted. I'm not a hypocrite and I do fight back when false accusations are made. Sarcasm and funny digs are my thing and it blows over their heads because they are "so serious" about their brand of religion. Lighten up.
LinkedIn....hmmm...I got an email from them this week saying my career was really taking off! I retired in 2008.
I get potential job offer thingers from them. I retired from my actual job of 37 years in 2016, but I did work part-time afterward until COVID and even a bit remotely afterward, but not in a year now.
I still keep in touch because I simply have an interest in what public projects might be happening in the NY metro area, plus, of course, I have a shared bond with a lot of former coworkers because of our experience. It is August, the time when the ghosts begin to rise, and within certain circles, social media traffic picks up.
That could be part of the topic: Why, after the attacks, did some people become atheists, or at least had a crisis of faith, while others became more religious?

Hey, I DID actually ask you a question, which you answered.
The best foxhole story I ever read was an interview with a WWII vet around the 50th anniversary of one of the major battles. The man was in Europe in a trench. All night men around him were being hit and killed by the relenting barrage of ammunition. He ran out of ammo himself and just laid down in the ditch, waiting to get hit and die. The night went on, and then, all of a sudden, he realized something was changing. It was getting light. He peeked up out of his hole and saw the sun rising, and he said at that moment, it hit him that the sun was going to rise and set whether he was alive or dead, and in that moment he lost all fear of death with the realization of how insignificant he was.
No mention of religion, but that story stuck with me.
I will always point out that on September 11, thousands of people in my immediate vicinity died, and they were Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, atheists, and who else knows what. Same with the ones who lived. There was no advantage or disadvantage based on what you believed, only a matter of where you were at a given moment and what you did, if you had a choice.
True, but sadly a whole lot happened after that day that was fueled by what people believed. In our government, our country and around the world...
I couldn't sleep the other night and ended up watching this rather disconcerting if not disturbing movie about one story of many that followed 9/11...
As long as you don't mind when I return the favor.
