It is for you, and it is on your side. and I tend to tell myself this because I tend to be fairly pessimistic about life on earth, how women and girls are being treated in this world. I feel I have received the bounty and blessings of the universe and God, I have an objectively pretty good life. I believe in positive energy and being grateful. Tap into the energy of optimism and gratitude, is the way for me. I'm the pessimistic type who needs all the positive thoughts and energy she can get. This idea and belief that the universe is basically good and benevolent, is a gamechanger for me, personally.
Thank you for bringing this up, because I was told things as a child that indicated the universe is against everyone, though it never made sense to me. My mother often said something like "even if you deserve it you probably won't get it because there is never enough..." Being able to change your mind about the support we have or don't have from the universe is a gift.

I learned from my oldest daughter how magical gratitude is. She taught my younger daughter to say thank you for everything and she meant it when she said it. When they were 5 and 2 they spent a week with my aunt and uncle and when we went to pick them up, my dad asked "So how was it?" And my uncle said "I was about Thank You'd to death." I am cynical and had been raised by a severe pessimist. I did have a lot of issues getting along with people but once I was told "you don't have any control over any of those people except what you think about them." That was a game changer for me. I had to work at it but I was able to change my mind about people I worked with and almost everyone else. I decided that everyone I was having trouble with I would find one thing I liked about them. Suddenly they were telling me things about themselves that shocked me that they could function as well as they did with the trauma they experienced as children. The trauma I experienced growing up was nothing compared to what some of them had lived through. It put a lot of things into perspective for me, I was the one with the problem, not them. Life is so much better now.

I hung out with a lot of new agers for many years and you do have to be conscious of the bliss bunnies who will always insist that you not say things that upset them by accusing you of being negative "I cannot be around anything negative" is a very negative attitude because it removes the person who says it or who has that attitude from responsibility of their actions. So, there has to be balance, yes there are days that are hard, people who are difficult, situations that can take you down, but resilience allows you to recover from all of it and be ok. Ignoring or avoiding reality is not the same as being positive and is the least resilient way of thinking.

Like a wake up call ! I'm into spiritual stuff myself and what you went through could be called "Dark night of the soul"...where you finally see your dark side.

And once you acknowledge and deal with it....it's all uphill from there

Yes. "Perspective is everything."

I would not be able to stand that.

I am in my magic place, probably for the last time. I woke up at 2:15 and looked at my phone for the time, where I also see the weather. It was 44.

Will go up to low 70s later today.

Don't you live in New York or thereabouts?

I can't stand that kind of heat either. I'm certainly a cool weather person and here it's considered hot if we get into the 80s, but my kids were just in New York where they said it was unbearably hot and humid. "You melted if you walked on the sidewalk where there was no shade."

If I'm not mistaken, your magic place is somewhere in Canada right now. Right? Magical indeed. Our stay in Vancouver, Quebec City, Montreal and for our son's wedding in Banff was nothing less than magical. The weather included, but oh so much more than just the weather. Best of Sundays to you there! Enjoy.

70's?

Must be icicles and snowmen everywhere, all joking aside, this heat leaves absolutely nothing for cattle to eat. Its been decades since I saw it like this if ever. The amount of trees that are going to die is killing me.

I remember the last bad drought with dead trees everywhere, this drought heat is way worse than before. I tried to buy a cheap roast the other day usually 3.99 a pound, it was 14 bucks a pound. After the big freeze it was really bad, but this year will change everything. What the heat doesn't kill, the cold will. We have never seen water that hot in the gulf, especially around Florida. I wouldn't want a business in Florida this year, the heat of the water will take a tropical storm and turn into a cat 5 before landfall, we have never seen the water that hot, no doubt going to be a record year in many ways.

Yes, I live in coastal NJ, about 40 miles from Manhattan, but I've been in rural Ontario for three weeks. Glad I missed that hot weather. Have a wedding tomorrow, then back to NJ next week.

Here in upstate NY it has been pretty moderate and on the wet side since spring, but now we seem to be entering a "last gasp of summer" heat wave during the coming week or so. When I was a kid the oldsters gave it the now-politically-incorrect label of "indian summer" which is of course deservedly incorrect but the idea was one of a "false return to summer weather" just before getting hammered by winter.

Hopefully in NYC and NJ (and here) the heat will be short-lived, the fall mild and the winter slow to come (yet not bizarrely absent or abnormally severe, either) ... sadly we can probably expect more and more extremes though.
