Jimmy was (is he still alive) a money-grubbing shyster. No respect for him. Not sure what he has to do with this.

The song "Miracle Man" by Ozzy Osbourne from 1989 is about Jimmy Swaggart.

He is still alive, aged 87, although it's unclear how active he is.

After his famous tearful "I have sinned" message after he was caught with a prostitute in 1986, he was caught yet again in 1991. THAT time, he stated, "The Lord told me it's flat out none of your business." His son Donnie did then announce his father was stepping down from leadership of his organization for a "time of healing".

So yeah, he is no more respectable now than he ever was.

That sucks someone like Swaggart is the inspiration for an Ozzy song. I don't think he deserves that honor.

Jimmy was essentially caught with his pants down, proving pastors are human, and they sin and do bad things. I was always convinced that he cried while admitting his transgressions because it would reduce his income.

Somehow, Swaggart is the last survivor of the group of cousins that was him, Mickey Gilley, and Jerry Lee Lewis.

I know nothing of Gilley, but when Jerry Lee Lewis died I did not understand all the hagiography around a guy who married a 14 year old at one point in his life and played the piano with his butt-cheeks.

We 'muricans love us some grifters and charlatans, I guess. The epitaph on our national tombstone will doubtless be, "We lowered the bar like no other!"

It seems that when anyone dies, they take on the persona of a saint. They all go to heaven too!
