Odd? What is so odd about getting attacked for being a Christian? Jesus bore the brunt of the kind of hatred Christians face today. Christians were fed to the lions in the Colosseum back in those days. The lions today are atheists who take pleasure in attacking Christians.

You are quite right if atheists have no conscience. Generally, they don't. This is not to say that they are bad people. After all, to atheists good and evil are arbitrary moral concepts. Even dogs have a code of conduct. They don't bite the hand that feeds them.

But, that's a big "IF"...

More like, "IF they BELIEVE they fell short..."

Then again, who wants to admit that they "fell short?"...

...even if they KNOW they did?

Now you're getting ridiculous. Attacked? On this forum. When I was about 5 years old I was taught that "sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me". You must have missed that valuable lesson. And I suggest you remember that there is nothing more vicious than a christian who tells a non-christian that "if you don't accept Jesus Christ as your personal savior, then you're going to hell".

I didn't say anything about conscience. And no, good and evil are not arbitrary. There are moral systems in this world other than the christian one. Maybe you need to get out more.

What kind of a christian is it that can't be honest to himself...and his god...about falling short?

Did you miss the part where it says, "...it led SOME priests to take advantage of penitents..."?

How much is "SOME", thrill? Out of a million priests let's say, how many did this? 100? 1000? TENS of thousands?

I'll bet you believe the RCC had nothing to do with

1. the genocides in Latin America

2. Or the Spanish Inquisition

3. Or the Crusades

4. Or the attempted stamping out of all scientific advances

5. Or the RCC's participation in the slave trade in the New World

6. Or the slaughter of millions of pagans who refused to bend their knees to the Popes

And on and on.

And please don't throw out that old canard, "Well, the atheists are responsible for way more deaths than the RCC."
Why is so much so black-or-white to you?

For example, the RCC didn't attempt to "stamp out ALL scientific advances." After all, if it wasn't for the Catholic church MANY scientific advances wouldn't have happened.

And it's funny that you don't want me to bring up the idea that atheists are responsible for way more deaths than the RCC...even when you KNOW they are.

Quote:
Atheists don't believe in God so they don't hold to any standard.
Interesting that you believe that.

I've said before, which bears repeating, that some, SOME atheists have an even HIGHER standard of morality than SOME so-called Christians.

Do atheists ever incorporate the teachings of Christ into their own morality? Of course they do. They just don't believe that Christ...or God... was necessarily the catalyst.

Quote:
The RCC is supposed to hold to a much higher standard of ethics than we would expect atheists to and yet the RCC committed dozens of atrocities under the guise of protecting Holy Mother Church.
Why is it that because someone's an atheist that we should expect a lower standard of ethics from them?

Quote:
Do you believe the sex scandal of the priests was a witch hunt or was it real?
Do some priests do bad things? Yes.
Are some priests involved as being "witch hunted?" Yes.
Was it real? Yes.

Quote:
Do you believe that if a priest refused to forgive your mortal sin for whatever reason, you'd die with that mortal sin on your soul and go to hell forever?
No.

Quote:
That's what Jesus said, "Whose sins you refuse to forgive they are not forgiven." That's not the priest working through Jesus--that's the priest having the same power as Jesus to forgive or not forgive sins. It's right there in black and white.
You're not understanding the passage.

What a shame...

That didn't answer the question. Afraid to really answer it?
