What about un-prayer-related coincidence? Does anyone see anything in those weird little things that pop up?
For example, last week I could not remember the name of Thomas Keneally, the author of Schindler's Ark, the book on which Schindler's List was based. I looked it up.
Within two days, the surname Keneally popped up twice more in unrelated places. Is this just that I became aware of it because I looked it up and just would not have noticed otherwise?
What about when a song is in your head then you hear it on the radio? Or you are typing a word and you hear it on TV as you type? Certainly not earth-shattering or life-changing, but curious that it happens enough to make me say "hmmm".

I believe there is also such a thing as coincidence. JMO.

Yesterday I was thinking how odd it is that I can't remember my street addresses or telephone numbers from Colorado (4 years ago), Bangkok 10 years ago, or Virginia or Maryland (most of my adult life), but I have no problem remembering my telephone number and street address when I was a child in New York State.
What I have found from looking back at my life is when I was the most vulnerable, frightened, and insecure I did not think my prayers were being answered. This made me realize I am on my own and I need to address these issues facing me without fear and from strength. That did happen, i found resources within me that I did not know I had. Today I pray from a very different perspective.
(Journals we keep are hard to read, but oh boy, do they contain an ocean of misery! I have destroyed most of mine.)
As for Ann Lamott, she too has changed, matured, over the years, as has her writing and what she writes about. Her very first book I think was Bird by Bird, a very nice book on the art and craft of writing.
That was the first I read/heard of her. Bird by Bird. A few people in my writers group mentioned it, so I checked it out. Witty, but helpful, too. She was very honest about herself.
Ha, Alexa is not part of my life. The audio book I listen to when I walk mentioned a Keneally, then when I looked up cast members of something I was watching, there was another one!

Maybe back then we had less to store in our heads, and it stuck better.
I forgot to take my flute home at the end of 10th grade. Left it in the music room. Over the summer the music room was demolished as part of a school addition construction going on. My flute disappeared.
I remember the serial number. 160903. Every once in a while, I dream that I found it. I check the serial number in my dream.

It happens a lot to me also and is uncanny. I was taking to my neighbor outside on the driveway about dog park, and i get a message in my email about dog parks. have to just give up the idea of privacy if you are online.

Speaking of musical instruments...
I had not seen some friends in Maryland for a couple of years and wasn't aware that the husband had developed Alzheimer's quite badly. But the wife invited me over for dinner, and as we were sitting at the dinner table the husband picked up the pepper grinder, examined it closely, and said, "I haven't played my violin for a long time". Later when the husband was watching television I said to the wife, "I didn't know Morgan played the violin". "Oh, he never did".
How about all those christians out there pray for an end to Alzheimer's.

Suppose every morning when you get it, you flip a coin. You flip it again; if it comes up the same as the first flip (either heads or tails, whichever it was), you flip a third time. You repeat this process until you eventually flip the 'other' result.
About once a month (1 time in 32) you'll get six flips all the same. About once every year and a half (1 time in 512) you'll get to 10. Now, these might seem like statistical anomalies, but they aren't. In the context that you do this every day, they're normal. The idea that they're notable relies in forgetting, or not allowing for, all the times that such a streak hasn't happened.

That's curious... until you ponder all the songs you've sung to yourself or imagined, and that haven't popped-up in the background just then. And until you realize that you've written a few thousand words, and all but that one didn't immediately then come out of the television.
These things happen, but in the context of all the times they don't happen, they aren't really remarkable.
