In a sense, God's forgiveness certainly is conditional. I don't dispute that. But in a sense, it's also unconditional. It just depends on in what sense you are meaning.

Now we're in a different universe. I have to confess them to a priest, right? I cannot ask God for forgiveness directly. Only a priest can absolve me because of John 20:23, right?

He IS holding it back from us. He's saying, "Accept my son or I won't forgive you. Doesn't that sound like he's holding it back?

Since you are a former Catholic, you most certainly do. You have no excuse for not confessing your sins to a priest.

God can’t “just forgive” because He is holy (pure, set apart). I earlier used the comparison to our courts. Can our courts just let someone off without some sort of payment? No. Our laws (society) will not allow it.

If you are guilty of sin against God (our creator), you must either accept Jesus’ payment for your guilt or pay the penalty of eternal separation from God.

"Good" parenting is up to the parent. Some parents throw their kids out of the house when they turn 18. Some throw them out when they get pregnant. Some let their children live with them till they're old. I say God is NOT a good parent because he's like the sadist parent who burns his child because the child did something the parent didn't like.

edit: i saw your response.

Do you want or need forgiveness?

If not, then why do you care? None of this even applies to you. Jesus came for the sick, not for those who are well.

If yes, then who are you to say "this much, and no more"? Oughtn't you be willing to do whatever it takes to be reconciled to God?

We're way off the topic of the thread. I have to get this back on track. Give me a few minutes.

Technically, He is saying accept what my Son did for you or pay the penalty yourself, for your guilt.
