Jesus is the only begotten Son of God - the only Person who proceeds directly from God the Father. He is begotten, not made, as the Creed tells us.
Yes. As words that *did not come from Jesus* tell you.
Don't you think this is an important detail that Jesus probably would not have forgotten to leave out?
Christians never want to listen to what Jesus actually said. They wanted to listen to what a lot of old farts struggling to get or maintain power and notoriety said. I don't get that.

It is worse than that, JerZ. They completely ignore the persona and nature of Jesus in favor of what a lot of PRIMITIVE "old farts struggling to get or maintain power and notoriety said," and it has endured for over two millennia. It is an enigma!
Why would they have to be adopted? That's only a necessary scenario if one believes that Mary was a perpetual virgin.
Sorry, I should have been more clear. In Romans, Paul says Jesus is the first among many brothers in a passage about Christians. For Paul, when you became a Christian, you were adopted in to the Christian family.
First begotten son amongst many, first son born from a virgin of many more sons born of virgins, first resurrected son of many sons to follow in resurrection into a brand new kingdom. First fruit of many fruits

Jesus is called 'Son of God' in terms of His relation to God the Father. The Son proceeds from the Father.
Humans do not proceed from God, but we proceed from human parents. Even the first man, Adam, did not proceed from God directly, but was formed and fashioned by God out of matter - the dust of the earth.
Human beings can rightly be called 'sons of God' if we have been baptized into God's family. It is through baptism that we are adopted as sons. God is our Father, and Christ is our brother.
This is what the New Testament teaches.
That is the rationale developed by our primitive and superstitious ancestors who believed in the supernatural and magic. If you can explain what you THINK "begotten" means without resorting to supernatural nonsense, I might understand what you are talking about. There was an awful lot of human "begetting" (and "begats") in the Bible, Mike.
And they say: "The Most Gracious (Allah) has begotten a son (or offspring or children)
[as the Jews say: 'Uzair (Ezra) is the son of Allah, and the Christians say that He has begotten a son ['Îsa (Jesus) عليه السلام ],
and the pagan Arabs say that He has begotten daughters (angels and others.)]."
Indeed you have brought forth (said) a terrible evil thing.
Whereby the heavens are almost torn,
and the earth is split asunder,
and the mountains fall in ruins,
That they ascribe a son (or offspring or children) to the Most Gracious (Allah).
But it is not suitable for (the Majesty of) the Most Gracious (Allah) that He should beget a son (or offspring or children).
There is none in the heavens and the earth but comes unto the Most Gracious (Allah) as a slave.
Verily He knows each one of them, and has counted them a full counting.
And everyone of them will come to Him alone on the Day of Resurrection
(without any helper, or protector or defender).
