Adopted another cat yesterday. Some friends, I know my older Brother would, say, "Tamara, you don't need another cat!" but........
.......it had walked in, after trying to get in, at my Vet's, they knew I had a vacancy after recently losing a cat, they called me, it checked out, and I took him home. To me, he had all the "markings" of the Angels deciding, Heaven saying I was to step up to the bat.
And even if it had turned out that I could not take him, due to something communiable to the rest of the flock, I would had still paid for the first visit medicals so he would have a better adoption chance with someone.
Between that of either A and B but there is also "practicality" of "how it isn't right for me to do right now" or "I wasn't planning to spend my money that way (paying for medicals for a cat I would not have, if,) or "I have enough cats as my friends say"..............
..............but is it wrong to deny a Calling when we hear it? What is it that motivates us to accept a Calling over that of reason?

So you think this was a spiritual or religious "Calling"?
I don't know about the phrase "a calling", but perhaps this goes back to a recent and ongoing thread about "purpose in life"...maybe not exactly the same, but related.
When I was young I felt "a calling" to become a teacher. 33 years later...
At another point in my life I found a deep spritual connection with Thailand's culture.
And neither of these was the same as 'I want to collect carnival glass' or 'I want to go to the Canadian Rockies'.
The max I have had have been 7 though my upper limit is 8 (one neighborhood cat has a permanent reservation). In the concept of cat numbers and a Calling, there is a "saving concept" that I will foster, to give a cat or its human, more time to find a good home, but it has to be understood that I am fostering, not keeping and its human has to be actively looking for their home.
So far, those I foster for understand this and have abused it. It also has a saving condition for me in that I know I am not keeping the cat, they they are just a guest, and I am not becoming attached to them (which has happened).

Difficult to say.....especially since we are not at 8 cats, that's just the upper limit.
Anyhow, when it comes to animals, difficult to say with the many different ways people see animals. The Subaru Crosstrek commercial, "Welcome to the Pack", pretty well sums that up........and yes, the cats sleep in the bedroom with me, on my bed.

When I was doing dog rescue 4 was my limit. I have a friend that did cat rescue and had up to 10 but her house was immaculate and there never was an odor. So my answer is it really depends if you have the time and energy to keep up with all the work. Now I only have 2 dogs because of the expense plus the time and effort that goes into having that many. Plus I bought a condo and 2 is the limit.
My wife volunteered for a woman who ran a " no kill" shelter for dogs. Had volunteers who kept all these animals in their homes, and them bring them to a business establishment on the weekends in an attempt to put them up for adoption.
They even took a load of dogs abandoned due to hurricanes.
The woman lives and breathes this stuff.
Now that IMO, is a " calling ".
