Satan was sent to Earth by God to challenge mankind and tempt him to turn away from God
being "damned" or experiencing hell to me means simply natural consequences for actions. It is a natural law in action. If I lie cheat and steal, there are conseqences. I am "damned" to experience the consequences of my actions.
since we as humans poison our air and water and soil, the hell that results is disease and toxic air and poisoned food. We create our own hell by our actions.
The word damned means "to condemn". It is God that will send us to hell (away from his presence) not Satan. It is written that "hell was created for Satan and his angels" (or the other fallen angels). These fallen angels account for 1/3 of the angels of heaven. According to the bible the number of angels in heaven after the fall is 104 million aproximately. before the fall that would be 156 million approximately.
Since man who has sinned cannot spend eternity with God, then he must go away from God and the only place is Hell. This is because Heaven, Earth and the New Jerusalem are the final resting places of the saints of God. Hell will be cast into the Lake of Fire.
The word "d-amn" is used in language as a figure of speach to mean little more than explanation of surprise, or disgust when a person says: "God d-amn it!". Sometime people use it as a curse at another person when they say "D-amn you!" Even though it is God himself who damns or rather we ourselves damn ourselves to hell by rejecting the Son of God, Jesus Christ.

And that rejection damns our progress into holiness and godliness.
Permanent seperation from God...forever and ever and ever. And all the misery and suffering that goes along with that.
That's what it means to be damned...
