Only if you feel the bible was not written by men inspired of GOd. If you do feel the men who wrote the bible were merely men w/out any inspiration from above, then it would absolutely qualify as brainwashing. However, Christians feel God had complete control over the bible and therefore any ideals represented in it are for the express benefit of his creation.

To that effect, if you were to consider applying bible principles as brainwashing, you'd have to also consider applying any OTHER book-learned principals as the same-even when it comes to science and psychology.

Whoa, wait a second here. You should be careful of YOUR terminology. Do you know the difference between a hypothesis and a theory? Go look up the definitions and see if you can grok the very explicit differences. Plus, there IS very definitely an explanation of how and why people get old and die, and it's not a hypothesis, it's a theory.

I would respectfully say that it is you that has been brainwashed. In swallowing everything the science world tells you.

Right, because believing things that have physical proof is less logical than believing in something which has no proof. Everybody drink the Kool Aid now!

P.S. I'll believe a deity exists when he or she gives me direct scientific evidence that they're "out there".

I'm no scientist, or anywhere close in a million years to being one, but I read only three months ago an article stating that the ageing process, and why it begins, is still unknown. Do enlighten me, please.

theory and hypothesis are both based on uncertainty. I'm aware of the differences which is why I didnt use the words interchangeably. As you'll ee I did refer to science's explanation of human deterioration as 'theory'.

Science tells us what is observed. It's not just 'swallowing everything' about science. I can go out and test these things that scientists have come up with. Scientists themselves don't even 'swallow everything' other scientists say. They are ALWAYS trying to refute studies. Discovering things that contradict our current scientific worldview are what scientists dream of. They challenge what has been studied, and most of the time their own studies confirm the others they are skeptical about. If they find a flaw in a theory and update that theory, and other scientists test the new theory with success, then the scientist earns a bit of fame. Science is all about skepticism. Being brainwashed is all about believing what others tell you at face value, without testing it.

I am not against science. Where would we be without it?

I read books. Richard Dawkins is the leading fundamentalist on evolution (in Britain.) He is extremely influential. And yet there are books written by other scientist that dismantle his arguments one by one. The only problem is that they don't get the huge publicity that is afforded Mr Dawkins.
Not all scientists, by any means, have come to the conclusion that we evolved. On the contrary, they see undeniable evidence of intelligent design. Most have to keep their mouths shut or face the censure of the fashionable science world. I don't call that searching for the truth, do you?
