I need help...I am married to a Mormon, but I am Lutheran. He was 'sealed' in the temple to his EX...I asked him if he would be willing to get a 'temple divorce'...I know that is not the proper term for it.
He is not sure what would happen to his kids if he tried to do that...they had three kids together.
He was a convert into the religion, so he is not totally well-versed in the rules and beliefs.
Does anyone have any insight?
I'd like to learn something. Since Mormons are so pro-family, what is their posture on divorce? Over 50% of the married couples don't get along and head for divorce court, so I'm sure there's discord in Mormon families as well. So, what is the LDS stance on this?
As a Lutheran, I would say we believe that marriage is temporal only, is NOT a sacrament, does not survive death, and any non-civil agreement would have no binding power.
I would think he should be willing if his wife is still a Mormon and she wants it, because I think the seal has to be undone before SHE can get "resealed" in her church. If he is not a Mormon anymore, what difference?
Yes, he is still a Mormon...
And, I'm Lutheran. So far, it's worked very well. He attends my church AND his church. I've went to his services a couple of times, so I do have some knowledge of it.
The whole purpose of this thread was to maybe get someone who had gone through a similar experience and could give me some info. Thanks to anyone who responds.
I have a friend who is a Mormon and his wife had gotten a Temple Divorce (or whatever it's called) before they got married. They were about 28 when they married and she was not a virgin, but he was and the marriage and kids are still considered to be indoctrinated as pure Mormons. While the church does look down on these divorces, it's not grounds for excommunication or anything.
