i wouldn't dream of dating a man who didn't have an active spiritual life.
and there are plenty of women who run the other way when a man states that god is important to him.
it's a self-selecting process.
if it's important to a woman or a man to have spirituality present (or absent) in a mate, than they find that out and get on with their dating.
regarding the opening post question about do women find atheists more attractive: as a woman flat out NO, i find atheists to be rather limited, rigid, and inflexible in their thinking, and I prefer to be with someone who is open to more of life's possibilities, and who has a deeper, broader, richer understanding of the spiritual side of being human.
Most people are not atheists in the strictest sense. But a man who declares he is becomes a complete turn-off.
To have a sense of an inner recognition, no matter how vague, of Something or Somebody greater than yourself is far preferable in a man. As DimSumRaja says, he is open to more of life's possibilities.
My atheism hasn't resulted in having to beat back crazed beautiful women with a stick (not that I would do such a thing). I think being an atheist is a huge disadvantage because there's hardly any women atheists out there and kdbrich is correct when he states that there's a large number of single women who attend church. I only wish that the OP were really true.
What? what?, ...
MontanaGuy most definitely is NOT an atheist -- maybe he is a "lost Christian lamb" looking for "lost Christian wolf".
I don't know. The whole "I wont date you because you don't believe exactly the same as me" is pretty sad.
As usual you make alot of sense. I also don't put my beliefs or lack of beliefs concerning religion at the center of my life. I honestly think there are many more important qualities that should be considered and I find that atheists who are condescending to believers to be shallow and arrogant.
I guess this question depends on how old you are/what generation you are from. I suspect in older generations religion is more important. I'm 26 and I can't think of one person(in my age group) I know that lets religion rule their life. I've never had an experience with anyone in college/young adults that stated they'd only date people that meet specific criteria. I'm sure it exists though...but to a minor extent.
For grins though...let's just hypothesize that in America, atheists tend to be higher educated people. Thus, they are probably more financially stable/successful. Thus, you can infer the average atheist will have an easier time finding a partner than a religious person due to their stature in life.
Well this does not apply to many black women in this country because while I was lucky, not too many black women running around who don't at least pay some kind of lip service to the biblical god.
The 400 years of indoctrination was VERY strong I tell ya.
My apologies, you're correct. If you go to church to pick up women you are going for the wrong reason.
Perhaps, perhaps not, I guess it all depends upon what one worships.
