I can accept that Jesus is a prophet, the son of God, the way, the truth, the light. However . . .
I can't accept the fact that a father would sacrifice his son. He's God, he doesn't have to kill anyone to allow free will. Free will by guilt? Then we should all be Jewish or Italian. That makes absolutely no sense to me.
The one thing that always sets me off is the thought that we have already been saved or revisited.
For me it's the theopolitical aspects of any religion, your example being part and parcel.
The "moral set" portion of theopolitical motivations are of a particular bother to me, along with the conviction of adherents to that religion that their moral set is somehow the only one around and/or superior.
If you ask me, attempting to make a human being anything BUT a human being is unnatural, particularly were sex is concerned, the most basic and powerful theopolitical tool available, which ends up causing certain sexual hang-ups, psychosis, and anti-social sexual behaviors.
Atheists, and we non-Abrahamics base our, arguabley, much more superior morals sets on common sence and a sence of community.
Wow, my list is very long, but here are a couple of favorites:
Jehovah witnesses are waiting for 144,000 of their followers to be lifted to heaven, and yet they still feel the need to come to my door and bother me to get me into their religion.
The Catholic Church teaches their sheep so many things that have no basis in the bible (to many things to list). And the Pope still tells billions of followers not to use condoms. JumpinJesusChristonapogostick, this is the 21st. centrury!
Cults that use 'religion' to make a ton of money and exert control over their followers, like MasterPath and its self proclaimed Master, Gary Olsen.
