Wow! What kind of a weirdo would ask a total stranger about his underwear? Do you do that with everybody who comes to your door?

You sound like a nice guy. I bet those two missionaries really appreciated being asked in out of the cold.

One thing you need to understand about Mormon missionaries. It is really pretty unusual to find one who is going to "try to tell you how to live your life." It's even more unusual to find one who is going to tell you that if you don't change the way you're living your life, you're going to go to hell. You know why? That's not what they believe. They are out there devoting two years of their lives to share something with you that they love and that they genuinely believe might make your life happier and more fulfilled. So maybe they're wrong. What's one man's meat is another man's poison. Mostly, they're not pushy. They don't need to be. There are enough interested people that it is counter-productive for them to be wasting their time trying to convince somebody who is not interested. Two thirds of the Church's nearly 14 million members today are converts. There are plenty of interested people, so if you're not one of them, that's pretty much all you need to tell them.

As far as how much an 18-year-old knows about anything (they're actually at least 19, BTW, not that that makes a lot of difference), they actually do know a whole lot more than you might think. They have been studying the Church's doctrine in depth for several years and study for a couple of hours a day during the two years they're out on their missions. They may not have all the answers, but they are definitely knowledgable about the basics, and before they've been out for very long, have heard every anti-Mormon argument there is.

Or. . . I'll answer it clothed, invite them in, and tell them I'll let them read me a scripture out of their book if they will read a scripture out of one of mine, to me. And then have them read something out of a hardcore porn magazine.

Or there's option C that I used to do when I was a teenager: Answer the door with a paintball gun and light em up!
That is just about the most juvenile response I've ever heard to a question on this forum. Seriously, who do you think you're impressing?

I live near Palmyra NY... and live near many Mormons....went to school with them and was friends with them growing up. They come often door to door here- since Palmyra is only 10 min from my house... once it was freezing cold and the wind was blowing, the snow was coming down... it was NASTY out (I live where the wind chill dips down well below zero)... These two very young girls knocked on my door. I could tell they were very cold and I let them in to warm up. The invited me to the farm the volunteered at on the weekends (there are many land marks in Palmyra people visit)... and I gave them hot chocolate to warm up. They played with my daughter for a bit and talked about the area we lived in.... that was it. They thanked me for the warm drinks and I offered them a sandwich to take on their way.... I figured I would treat them as I would want to be treated in such nasty cold weather.... they were so young and so cold.... It is so hard to remember that sometimes.... but they only stayed for ten minutes and my daughter was entertained.... it was not harm to me, and I know they were warm and fed... it was the right thing to do... But I did tell them I had my own faith and was very happy with it... that was that.... no problem.

I've been exposed to the religion. My son went to boy scouts at their church, I've taken lessons and learned as much as I could. I absolutely love their family oriented approach. But it just wasn't a fit. Regardless, I will always offer to make dinner for them. They depend on church members to feed them and it is the least I can do. Even if I don't subscribe to their way, I respect them for their efforts.

Excellent attitude! It's not easy being a faithful Latter-day Saint, it's not for everyone. But we do take seriously our responsibility to teach the gospel of Jesus Christ as we know and understand it to all who are interested in learning what we believe. It's then up to them to pray about it and decide for themselves if it's a fit.

What blows my mind when I come on here is how Mormons are harassed on here.... I am Catholic so I feel it too... but really... I live near the start of everything here near Palmyra so I guess I am just immersed and not as blind? I don't know... it just drives me nuts. People act like Mormons are not people too.... How Christian is that? Seriously? What would Christ do if he knew how you treated these individuals who came to your door? Did/said these disgusting things... some people think they are so good walking with the Lord... do you think the Lord would act like that? really? I don't..... I really don't.... and then you are mocking? I don't mean to preach.... but it just gets me so annoyed... I guess I just want to say.... walk the talk... is all...

Christ railed against people who claimed to be the true spiritual leaders of the True God. They were the Pharisees and Sadducees, and Christ did not stop railing against them. It is Christ-like to expose false teachers like the Mormons, who lie about being Christian when in fact they are not Christians at all.

So it doesn't surprise me when they are "harrassed" (funny how any challenge to them is "harrassment" whereas any challenge to any Christian is not), especially by Christians, for making false, blasphemous claims about Christ and Christianity. And that's what I make sure they understand when they come to my door.
