I have a question about christian prayers. I know that many times when something bad or very good happens many christians believe/say "it's part of gods plan for us" etc. How many of you or which christian sects believe god has a plan for everyone and a plan for life period since he created it all?
Now my main question is if you believe god has a plan for everything (if you don't then question does not apply to you!) as in this is a sacred plan done by the infallible god, why do people pray then? Wouldnt you be trying to change gods plan? Shouldn't his plan be perfect?
That's an interesting question because what you're basically asking is if a prayer can get God to change his mind and deviate from his plan. If there was a God and he expected to be prayed to, it would seem like a cruel thing to let someone die of cancer for example, simply because no one bothered to pray about it. I haven't said a prayer since I was a teenager which was a very long time ago and I don't believe things would have turned out any different if I would have prayed every single day of my life. Of course I don't think there's a God out in the first place so praying seems pointless.
I used to ask the same question when I was in church. What's the point of praying? If god's big plan is for you to suffer forever with say diabetes...then why pray? Suffering is supposed to make us stronger right? We are supposed to be joyful even though we can't find a job, bills are overdue, can't afford to go the doctor, car won't start, etc...etc....etc....happy happy joy joy. So like the op said....why pray if god loves so much that he wants you to suffer every day because of his big plan for you.

This is so sad . . . but completely understandable . . . been there.

Thanks.
Yes, God's plan is perfect. We don't know what his intent is but we know he doesn't make any mistakes. Praying is a way of asking God getting God to listen to you. The Bible says he can't here you unless you pray and sometimes we ask questions if our prayers that we're hoping to be shown an answer to. The power of prayer is sometimes just on a personal level though....it makes people feel connected to other people (and God) in a time of crisis and gives you a comforting shoulder to lean on.
Sounds like you don't believe in God so this may be very hard for you to understand.
If you're catholic, you can pray to a saint, especially your patron saint, for intercession on your behalf.
It's kind of like asking your boss's wife's sister, who you know socially, to put in a good word for you with the big guy.

Here or hear? How can you talk bad about someones spelling when you do the same?
If gods plan is perfect than dont be so self centered to think that your prayer is more important than gods plan. Don't you think that is selfish to ask god to do something when he already has a perfect plan. I understand the point of prayer on a personal level since buddhists and shinto do this, and that's probably all there is to praying- to make you feel good.

Hmm you can also do the same to the virgin marry. The Catholic religion is the christian sect i like the most out of all of christendom. I am an agnostic myself but Catholicism seems very old, traditional and for the most part very cultural. Yes they believe in stuff i can never bring myself into believing since it's not really based on anything many of the core beliefs are nice. For example catholics aren't bible fundamentalists meaning everything in the bible is not 100% true and needs to be taken literally. I also like how they preach going to "heaven" is through doing good deeds.
Prayer helps one align their spirit, their desires with that of God. It's an opportunity to make oneself available to hear God and be heard by God Himself, directly. It's a relationship.
