When I was a youngster in the 1930's and 1940's I always attended prayer meeting on Wednesday evenings.
During those years each family either had a member or a friend who was suffering with cancer or heart disease.
Prayer lists were a foot and a half long. We prayed for the afflicted to be comfortable and survive but they suffered and died anyway. Hundreds of millions of prayers across this nation went unanswered.
Now that medical technology has advanced in their education, techniques, electronic diagnostic devices, etc. and with better diets, blood thinners, stents, bypass surgery, stem cell transplants, chemotherapy, radiation
treatments etc. the same kind of patients live on into their 80's and sometimes 90's.
Prayer didn't have anything to do with their dying back then and it has nothing to do with their living now.
Check the insurance company's actuarial life expectency tables from back then and the ones for current men and women for particular age groups and you can prove it.

I would never argue with that. Back in the 1950's a story went around about a nine year old girl in Texas bleeding from her hands and feet every Easter. The thing I will argue about is it changing anything other than in one's mind and possibly their own body.

The only time I got results from praying was when I wanted "direction" & was willing to take direction from any source that seemed to point me in the right direction.
The way I prayed was very vague. It was basically intense wishing, directed to "whatever is out there".
I'm not going to say what the first thing was: too laughable. The second thing was a place to move to that I could afford, when I was a single mom. It came to me to look in the Nickel Saver & there it was, the exactly affordable place & not in a ghetto. Now I wish I'd prayed a little harder for a place with a yard instead of an apartment in a commercial complex surrounded by parking lots. Not a good place for children. I didn't pray for how it would look, just the price range. Should've prayed for a nice landlord too, but the ones that rent out cheap are usually the worst.
So, prayer didn't change anything. It just made my mind search for answers more fervently. Nothing has ever dropped out of the sky for me. The one time it did seem to, it was a job that turned out to be a job from hell, anyway - but I wasn't praying for that one... I don't pray or wish for anything very fervently anymore.

Nor I...the best things which ever happened to me were basically either someone with whom I was acquainted making it happen or my own dedication and work. Other than that I would attribute things to animal instinct or a combination of effort and circumstances. Having said that I do carry a lucky piece with me when I fly or visit the casinos, LOL!
Real prayer isn't words. It's the intention in your heart. It could be just a second of intentions and that prayer is answered. People assume you have to say words but that isn't so. God doesn't work that way. He sees the heart and not the words. I've had lots of those prayers answered whereas word prayers have never been answered.
I noticed that the congress passed a special law just for Terri Schiavo and George Bush flew back from Crawford TX in the middle of the night to sign it and with half the nation lighting candles and praying for her they removed the feeding tube and let her die anyway. I guess you're right.

The way I understand prayers and how they are answered, the recipiant of the prayer would have to be willing to be prayed for or else it goes unanswered. She may have not wanted to live any longer so the prayers for her meant nothing.

Her parents were trying to intercede when after caring for her(a vegetable) for more than ten years her husband was going to authorize removal of the feeding tube...which was the only thing keeping her alive. She had previously told her husband that she didn't want to live like that. The legal battle was between her parents and her husband and after a year or more the tube was removed.

No, I don't read the news or watch it. I was actually referring to her soul. Even though she was "not there" her soul was still connected to her material body. She disengaged her own soul from her body. She no longer wanted to live like that as she knew how she would be if she lived.
