That entered my mind too. I thought maybe this was a different version of the song. The song always struck me as deeply cynical despite its happy tone. The singer indicates disillusionment with, not just religion, but also science, progress, and politicians. His only solid belief is in his loved one. Although that might sound romantic to some to me it puts way too much pressure on another person and is possibly downright nihilistic.

Prove it, and I'll convert on the spot.

Caveat: the bible is not proof of its own veracity.

And if you must quote the bible, specifically Genesis.

I find it quite amazing that those that lived back then could live in excess of 800 years, what's happened to our average lifespan!
Why did you not quote that? Obviously, it is not pertinent to this discussion, but I'm assuming you know this not to be true.

There seems to be tolerance, which is usually demonstrated when a scientific or logical fallacy appears in text is taken as a "metaphor" or "hyperbole" and whatever else that can't be scientifically proven wrong is regarded as truth. That line of tolerance is regarded as "faith", which in itself defines a person to surrender reason, which for you to have said that comment, you are sure past that line.

Well, this is one theory. There are others.

And...there are actually people who believe this stuff??? P.T. Barnum may well have been right.
