If you meet someone the first time in a social situation, and he introduces himself as someone religious. Will this be received positively?

Personally I would have no problem being friends with a religous person-and indeed I am, even though I'm an atheist. My only problem is when they try to force their views on me, which I deem a showing of disrespect.
That being said, I'll answer you specific question: In my view, if a person immediately declares him or herself to be religious, like within two minutes of meeting them for the first time, I'd say they chances are very good that this person is simply too zealous for me, and though I'd be willing to try and be friends, my best guess would be that we'd be incompatible.
