According to an ancient school of thought, one kills gods by forgetting about them.

A death of anonymity.

In ancient Egypt, not only were gods subjected to this, but human beigns as well. To erase all mentions of a human being, on tomb walls, sarcophagi, etc, was to kill that person's spirit.

Well on Star Trek, Capt. Kirk and Sulu and Chekov shunned and ridiculed Adonis and the winds took him away (???). But I think maybe that is not the answer you are looking for.

Can't kill what doesn't exist.

I think we could all agree that mythical gods like Zeus are dead as a doornail but there wasn't any battle to the death which caused his demise. People just outgrew the need to believe in such an entity so he was quickly forgotten. That's what happens to gods who never existed in the first place.

I have often wondered about Zeus, if he just simply retired or what, but I will have to accept and agree he probably is dead. Hmmph.

No. They are killed by opening text books on the ancient history of the Near East - and then reading them. They are killed by going to your local library, and perusing the section that pertains to the religious history of ancient mankind. They are killed by knowledge; an outlawed component of the very Tree that was vilified in the Genesis accounts of ancient Yahvist legends.
