It was said humans were "created in God's image" -- that brings us the question: who on earth looks like God?

I mean, there are African blacks, there are European whites, and there are Asians, so who looks like God?

According to rabbinic literature the angels had trouble distinguishing Adam from God. The same tradition holds that Adam was born circumcised, and that since man was made in God's image, God is therefore circumcised.

I think the meaning of the text is simply that we were created with two eyes, a nose and mouth (in a certain orientation), two arms and legs, etc. The color of our skin and the shapes of our noses aren't really addressed in that part of Genesis.

The term means we are like God in our nature-our mind. Not our looks. Get yourself a Bible commentary and learn from the experts-O ye of the greek mindset trying to relate to the Hebrew way of thinking.

You mean the men that believed the earth was flat, the center of the universe, and a vast number of other misconceptions? Pass

Biblical commentaries analyze Scripture, not science books!

Yea, that is my point, analyzing 2000 - 3000 year old writings by men that were so enlightened as to believe the earth was flat, etc. etc., and by your own admission ignoring all the science learned and proven since them. You really should your forehead.

No, it means our physical appearance. Both Hebrew words refer to outward appearance, not nature or mind. The early Rabbis unilaterally accepted it as a reference to physical appearance. The modern idea that it refers to something else is the result of the assimilation of Greek ontology, which views deity as incorporeal. This took place within Christianity during the late second and third centuries CE. Origen explains that the issue hadn't been settled by his day, but he very clearly comes down on the side of an incorporeal deity because the alternative was something the philosophical mind despises. In Judaism anthropomorphism is cohesive in the rabbinic texts until around the time of Maimonides, although there are clear attempts at eradicating it as early as the Targumim. Two good articles are "Anthropomorphism and Its Eradication," on page 157 here, and "Early Christian Belief in a Corporeal Deity: Origen and Augustine as Reluctant Witnesses," here.

Who would want to be like the Jewish god?

Jealous, egotistical, envious, all powerful, vindictive...No Thanks!

I believe primitive man created god in his image...not the other way round.
