Hoping for good authentic mexican food in Sparks or Reno area?
Is there a need for bi-lingual speakers when looking for a job?
Nice diversity in the area?
Thanks for your input!!

La Michoacana 4950 S Virginia St is the ONLY authentic Mexican restaurant in Reno. There's about 25% Latino population in Reno. Wells Ave is a big Latino area as well as Neil Road as well as Grove Street. A lot of government and social service jobs want bi-lingual. Unfortunately, Reno has one of the worst unemployment rates in the nation right now, but we should recover well in a few years. There's backlash against immigrants now that the economy is bad, but most all Renoites are very open minded and get along well with each other. I've never heard any Mexican Latino bashing here, whereas when I was in Chicago and NY there was a lot.

Bilingual ability in Northern Nevada is definitely a plus for many hirers : ) Plenty of good authentic mexican food here as well with plenty of diversity.

BLD- I respectfully disagree with you for once. While I love Michoacana, Lupitas on Pyramid in Sparks is really good and authentic. If you are looking for a good quick bite of autrhentic, try super taqueria on Double R. I dont mind Murriettas in Sparks on Vista or La Fuente on Baring as well but they are definitely not as good as the first two.
Dont let anyone in town talk you into Bertha Mirandas. They have gone downhill but old habits die hard so the locals still say its the best....no way. Food is served lukewarm and service sucks.

For great Mexican food, try La Fuente near the intersection of Baring and McCarran in Sparks. Nice ambience, too.

Has anyone tried Rigo's Mexican Cuisine Prater and Sparks? We enjoyed food there last week and it was FANTASTIC, they had some of the best chips....and food was great. My order was way too much, next time I'm getting the special because the serving was in line with the price : )

My husband and I are both of hispanic decent. In our plans to move to Reno we had to locate a place for authentic food that will "get us by" between visits back home to granma's. Of the three we've had on our list, 2 have been "eh" Murrieta's and Bertha Mirandas. Both had great reviews but we didn't care for the food at either one. The next on our list is La Posada Real, again based on reviews we've read. Will have to add those other suggestions to our list. It's a keeper when you take your first bite and you're like "OMG!" Our search continues.
