Hey everyone. I will be retiring in about 2 years and the Wife and I will be moving to the Reno area from Pennsylvania.

Reno will be our home. We've visited 8 or 9 times and have family in the area. Everything we have done to this point for the past 10 years is to this end.

With that said, we are looking for recommendations for a reputable Financial Planner. I can certainly go through a number of "local" planners here in Pa. but we prefer a more local connection. We plan on visiting in September of this year and would like to meet with one because that tiime frame puts me less than 18 mos. out.

So any recommendations and more importantly, WHY! Thanks!

Waddell & Reed - Home

i can't sepak to the location in reno, but i have used w&r for many many years - in 2 different states. depending on how much $ you have invested will depend on their level of help. i think it's $50k+ gives you FULL service. anything under that will give you some help, but not as much.

which banks got reputable financial planners? fees they charge ? do they show everything they invest for you? or sometimes you can't get all the answers you want. Some of the planners are tricky!

Wasn't it 100k before the financial crisis, it's 50k now I guess?

w&r have been 50k for the last...15 yrs(?) or so. they are not a bank, they are a financial planning/investment service. i have never been charged a fee & i have never seen "fees" in any of the financial statements from them either. & yes, they show everything they invest for me.

i've tried other companies over the years - merrill lynch (1990s) nylife (late 90s, early 2000) & a few others. none of them answered my questions like w&r, none of them treated me like w&r does. i am not just $$$ to them, i'm a person.

Thanks for the insight! We will read up and check the credentials to see if they match our needs. The point you hit upon is very important. Being treated like a person should be high on the list because the connection is very personal between you and your financial planner. Have to be able to trust them!!
