I felt the apartment shake twice, around 12:15 and 12:30 AM tonight (Wednesday, 12/28/2016), for like 5-6 seconds each time. I thought the power was going to go off. I am gathering what I need (clothes, meds, flashlights, laptop, hard drives, etc.) right now.

Was this an earthquake? I have never experienced one before as I am from the east coast.

If one hits, will I be able to wait for it to stop, then gather my stuff quickly to evacuate the apartment? Or should I sleep in my car the next few nights?

Is it a good idea to sleep naked?

-------------------

EDIT: it appears the apartment shakes each time the forced air heater kicks on?? If true this is new. Or it could still be the aftershocks of an earthquake. Either way, I need to be more prepared.

It happens up there...generally they are not as bad or as often as Southern California.

While frightening, the chance of your house falling on you is very small. Houses in the United States are built well (compared to China or Iran). You do want to make sure there are no gas leaks. There will be aftershocks for a few weeks.

You can look up "earthquake preparedness" on the internet.

I guess they occurred when I also lived in nor Cal. But each time I was asleep and didn't feel a thing. I am going to start leaving my laptop by the front door. Of course, that also increases the likelihood of theft. I also carry my meds, portable hard drive, iPod, 2 cell phones, 3 cell phone batteries/chargers, and USB cords/plugs in my purse, but now it is super heavy.

Only if you're hot.
