Now we are thinking that the casinos could be too much of a problem/deterrent for us. That, among a few other reasons, we decided a "no" on moving to Las Vegas area. We have never lived close to any casino, and, when thinking about it, know why.

But, as far as rent goes, we are currently living in a 2-bedroom/2-bath and have a garage for our vehicle, for $1,600 a month. Just had a $200 increase in rent that we had to accept.

But, as I keep telling my wife, the higher cost in rent generally means a safer/nicer apartment complex.

Hello,

Las Vegas is over 8 hours drive from Carson City and a totally different atmosphere/ecosystem than Northern Nevada.

The few casinos in Carson City are rather small and mostly serve as a place for reasonably priced buffets or coffee shop meals for locals, nothing like the big casinos in LV or Reno.

Sounds like you have a good living situation where you are currently located. Best wishes to you!

Well, the answer to that (in red above) is most definitely a NO! If we did, we darn sure wouldn't be checking out other cities/states to move to.

But, anyway, a casino, small or large, can still be very attractive to spend money in, as in slot machines. Sometimes a person can spend more than they ever intended to.

I rarely go in a casino and never gamble. However, it becomes a problem for some people and they can’t live here.

Anyone know how blue or progressive is it in Carson City? We are thinking of moving there but do not want to end up in a conservative red area.

Reno is trending blue. Carson City is more conservative and usually votes red and has been referred to as a ‘Republican stronghold’ in Nevada.

In reality all counties in Nevada are red except Clark (Las Vegas) and Washoe (Reno). Washoe is considered purple.

Here are the voter registration statistics: https://www.nvsos.gov/sos/home/showp...26028370270000

Care, unless you really desire small town living I would pick Reno over Carson. There’s so much more to do here.

I don't understand the aversion to casinos, especially in a small casino market such as Carson City. If you're opposed to or uncomfortable with gambling, don't gamble. That describes many people I know. But some of the casinos within a reasonable drive of Carson City (Reno and South Lake Tahoe) have outstanding restaurants that are worth checking out.

Virginia City has more old West style than just about anywhere. For visits, or living there (or real near) if you want it all the time.
