We are early Baby Boomers, being that we were born in 1948 and 1949. We are both fully retired, but only on SS, however have savings.

Love Western Festivals and things like that. Love seeing mountains and the Sierra Maderas are just west of Carson City. Like going to a casino once in a while.

Snow and winter doesn't bother us much. Have lived in it before and survived. Would be renting an apartment. Not enough money to buy a house/condo. I would be just wife and I (as in female/male married 21 years).

IOW, Colorado is nice, but just not for us anymore.

Carson City / Reno puts you near one of the top ten rodeo spots in the country, with the NFR in Las Vegas not that far away.

You'll probably find a lot more people wearing your preferred western wear out there than in the Front Range of Colorado, especially a college town like Fort Collins.

Well, to let you know, Mike, there are a some big rodeos near Ft. Collins also: Greeley Stampede, Cheyenne Frontier Days and National Western Stock Show & Rodeo in Denver. As well as smaller ones, like: Larimer County Fair & Rodeo and Estes Park. But, you are very right about western wear in Ft. Collins, except for those that go to the nightclub Sundance Saloon and to the Centennial Livestock Auction that we have been to a few times to observe.

But, the Reno Rodeo is very big and there's an Old West Festival in Carson City yearly. But, being able to drive, not fly, to Vegas for the National Finals Rodeo would be great also.

So far, we are just researching Carson City.

For those living in Carson City, what is the lifestyle like? General age bracket there?

Carson City is a friendly city with a high quality of life. Carson has been ranked a top ‘retirement city’ several times over the years. The city government is run very professionally. Many officials/residents were born and raised in the community. Carson City is a community that you can be involved with in all sorts of fun or positive ways.

Northern Nevada promotes tourism so there are many special events in this area at any given time. Lake Tahoe, Virginia City and Reno are all about 30 minutes drive. Carson is a great place to live if you enjoy outdoor recreation.

The vibe is relaxed, positive with a ‘live and let live’ attitude.

Cowboy culture/attire is not as common here as in the past. You will find that more in the ranching communities of Fallon or Yerington/Smith Valley and somewhat in Carson Valley (Minden/Gardnerville).

There is a very tight housing market here, including apartments and rents can be pricey for nice properties. I would recommend using a real estate professional to assist you in a search.

Well, we aren't 100% "open minded" or have that "live and let live" attitude. And, I seriously don't think there are that many old people, as in older Seniors, that are. They won't openly say anything, and neither would we, but many aren't the "live and let live" type in this day and age. Way to many things have changed from the 60's, 70's and on for older folks to think that way.

They're thoughts are more in the "damn, sure wish things were the way they use to be.........simple and friendly" way.

Ok, so.........the great, the good and not so good about living in Carson City?

Also, read a thread about the wind in Carson City. We know how the wind can be in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Been there when it was quite windy.

And, being our age, 72/73, we aren't nearly that much into outdoor fun as we use to be.

Bottom Line: We just want a friendlier area/city to live in, than we are now. With some cities, Millennials and Gen X have a hard time getting along with younger and older Seniors.

I have lived in Reno for 25 years. Both Reno and Carson city are friendly. I love it here. The COL has really increased so make sure you are comfortable with that. Luckily I own my condo because I couldn’t afford to rent. I love the mild 4 seasons.

You say the COL has increased there, you should see it here! But, then again, many of the nicer/safer areas of the U.S., COL has increased by quite a bit.

We really don't have 4 seasons here. Summer pretty much goes straight into winter and a very short Spring time.

Still thinking about Carson City, but have to do more research. Where ever we move to, we are already packing pictures up and other things. We still have a year left on our apartment lease. Didn't want it that way, but we sure can't move in the middle of the winter. We're not THAT young anymore. LOL

The snow mostly melts shortly after the sun comes up which I like. Research rents so you know if you can afford it.
