My fiance and I just found an apartment we love. We were approved and paid the deposit. We were told that the bathroom in the unit was being renovated so move in date would be in 2 weeks, this was fine with us. They told us they are drawing up the lease and will call and let us know when we can go sign. It's been a few days and the waiting seems tedious! We are really excited and anxious, I just want it to be official already. My question is does it usually take a couple of days for this?

Thanks.

If the bathroom is being renovated, it may be taking longer than planned. Do not sign the lease until the apartment is complete and ready. The LL is probably aware of problems with signing a lease with verbal promises and is avoiding doing that.
Call and see if things are on time and getting ready. Be patient, you want a complete and ready to move in apartment.

Agree with Shane...DO NOT sign the lease until renovations are complete and you've done another walk thru of the unit.

Everything must be complete and the unit move-in ready.

How much deposit? I would not feel comfortable giving any kind of significant money without getting a lease.

Thanks for the responses...the deposit was $500 plus $40 for credit check. (I guess to hold the apartment for us) and we are paying the rest (first months rent) at lease signing. My fiance spoke to the guy today, we should be signing tomorrow or Monday! He just wanted to be sure they were done with the bathroom. We are DEFINITELY going to look at the bathroom before signing lease to be sure they did everything they said they were going too. I just had this fear that it wasn't "officially" ours...but it is...we love it and do not want to let the place go.
