bentlebee: From the OP's posts it seems that although his relatives have six pets (and I believe from his posts they're all cats) they're giving three to him so in fact are looking for a place where they can have three cats. The problem seems to be that they can find places which will accept two pets but not three.

Here in Pittsburgh you're limited to five pets even if you own your home, which is ridiculous.

1.Rent a place that is compatible in size to accommodate all pets.

2.Offer a big deposit to pay for any damages caused by the pets.

3.Ask the LL to visit your current home and see that it is kept clean and neat, and the pets are kept properly.

Just read a study stating Injury from canines responsible for 1/3 of all home insurers liability claims... average claim has exceeded 24k for the third straight year.

4.7 million are bitten in the US each year with 900,000 requiring medical attention.

As I mentioned... my carrier actually sent someone out to a property I managed to see if there were any dogs on site.

The study was reported in Bloomberg News

Is there a cap for the deposit and additional monthly rental for pet owners?

Yeah; it's somewhere between what a tenant will pay and what a LL will demand.

And stop referring to it as a "deposit" even if the LL (mistakenly) uses that term.
It's a FEE plain and simple: a payment that you will NEVER see returned.
