Park Slope, Brooklyn, NY
1300-1600 for a studio
1700-2300 for a 1BR

Rents took a sharp hit in late 2008 and early 2009. Then stabilized, and may have started to come up a little a few months ago but I'm not sure yet.

Long Island(about 50 miles from queens, NY)

900 for a small basement one bedroom.
Most one bedrooms are 1200-1500.

Rentals on Long Island are still strong, and prices are mostly steady.
I'm surpirsed you can only get $1250 for a 3 bedroom. Though I don't know anything about huntington. I pay 900(including utilities) for a basement 1 bedroom in Holbrook, and I looked at 20+ places and didn't find anything better and found alot worse.

Portland Maine: 2500 sq ft, 4bdrm, 2.5 ba home for $1850. We just moved here from a 4000 sq ft town home that was $3000mo. There are cheaper neighborhoods of course, and in general rents for a 1 bedroom go from about $750 to $2000.

I'm in Northern Va. and live in a 550sf apt for 1150.00 which includes utilities. But it is a older (1943) garden apt with no pool, no dishwasher, and no W/D in apts. I think it is high because I don't have those appliances but for the area, which is less than 3 miles from work and shopping, it is good.

I'm not sure where the poster is above that indicates heart of the SF Bay (maybe that's in the East Bay suburbs?), but a decent place close to transit, amenities, etc. in SF is more like:

1 BR apt - $1800+
2 BR apt - $2600+
parking - $150-$300 extra per month
3 BR townhouse (probably has garage)- $6000+
