YUCK!!!

I was out of town.
It rained really hard.
Dry wall in kitchen falls down, appears there was leaking.
I can see into the rafters, but not the sky.
Start to clean up mess.
Find dead animals mixed in with all the stuffing/ventilation/dirt.
Completely disgusting.
Notify landlord, comes by and looks at it.
Schedules a roofer to come by and look out it.
1 week later, nothing has been repaired. Dead animals still in my apartment.
Stay at my friend's house....

WTF...I can't believe they haven't done anything yet. How do I proceed? Should I have to pay the total amount of rent for the month?

Thanks.,

Your name - are you surrounded by "Morans", or morons? Just curious.

Call your local health department. That's a violation against health codes. Then they take matters in thier own hands by contacting the LL and or local housing authorities.

Twinkle Toes, have you never seen the Tea Partier's sign about "morans"? It's a classic.

Call the health department, have someone swing by for a look see. Take pics on your own. That's just gross ~~ dead animals carry diseases.

I want to clarify that I am making no political statements one way or the other, merely providing context to the OP's ID.

To the OP: I would, as others have said, call the health department. I would also send a certified letter, return-receipt requested demanding that the LL clean the apartment properly by a certain date or you will take him to court. This is a habitability issue, and if you go through the courts you can perhaps withhold rent. Just make sure you do it legally -- look at the laws in your state, and/or call a local lawyer well versed in LL/tenant law.

You could repair and deduct, but you need to follow the proper steps to do so.
