I received a rent increase notice recently from the so called "manager" where I live. It was typed by him on his manual typewriter, and unsigned by the owner. I also did not receive a new month to month lease with the new amount on it.

I'm paying it, but I keep wondering if it's legal. It's not a matter of it being done on a manual typewriter, it's unsigned by the owner.

The Declaration of Independence was hand written.
But yes, all legal notices should have a date of the notice, the date it goes into effect and have the name of the authority asserting the right to make the change.

It's really not a big deal. And you don't need a new lease. You're on a month to month, you were given notice of a rent increase, your paying the increase constitues agreement and as long as the terms and conditions of the original month to month agreement haven't been changed the same continue in effect.

My question was this: is it legal to have an unsigned rent increase notice? I don't care how it's written, I'm just wondering if it's legal for the owner not to sign it. Every other place that I've lived that gave rent increase notices signed them.

I posted a question, and didn't expect a lecture. Maybe one of the landlords can answer the question.

The people who've answered to you know exactly what the F they are talking about.

You came here hoping to hear a particular answer, when the answer wasn't to your liking, you attack people?

If it pleases you, I'm a landlord, and I can attest that what the previous posters have posted is correct.

You must care because you mentioned it was on a manual typewriter. If how it was written wasn't an issue you wouldn;t have mentioned it.

As for if it's legal, what does the state landlord tenat code for your state say?

Did they give you 30 days notice that the rent was going up? ( Thats standard - or at end of lease )

I would be asking that and looking at dates .. is it legal .. pretty much .. m2m doesnt give you as a tenant much wiggle room .. either you pay or you move and you have a short time span to decied in

The question is as follows:

Is it legal for the owner not to sign it? I've never gotten an unsigned rent increase notice from any landlord that I've rented from.

I got my rent increase notice in April for it to increase in June, and my next door neighbors just got one for theirs to go up in October, which is also unsigned.

The manager has a history of mental problems and he tends to harass tenants by writing little "notes" on his manual typewriter.

He also takes notices from city departments, prints out a new one at the library, cuts and pastes the new information on it, and give it to tenants.

I'm not attacking people, I asked a question that hasn't been answered. And I don't expect swearing on this forum. If you want to swear, do it offline. I doubt if you're a landlord, because there are landlords on this forum, and I should probably DM one of them.
