My neighbor downstairs chain smokes in her kitchen and I can smell it in my apartment. She also babysits her grand kids and I can hear them running endlessly until 1 am (mind you, they're downstairs).

Yes my upstairs neighbor walks very hard all day. She never sits and it's hard to watch tv in any room in my place because I can hear the thumping in every room. Her husband walks normal, therefore I know she's obvilious.

My neighbor across the street installed some xmas lights on their property that played the cheapest, junkiest, most synthesized xmas music that anybody has ever heard. You can't get this item in Wallmart, because its too cheap and poorly built even for them.

Either way, she set this thing up at full blast, 24/7. The sound is so high-pitch, that you could hear it from blocks away.

By the second night of hearing the same 30 second xmas riff on a loop, I went over and ask them to please shut it down, turn it off, or move INSIDE their home. They didn't seem to eager to be neighborly.

The next night, I could hear it in my bedroom while trying to sleep. It pissed me off, so I went over there and turned down the volume myself.

The next day they turned it up again. Somebody (who was NOT me), went over there and cut ALL their xmas lights wires in the middle of the night. That stopped the infernal sound emanating from that plastic piece of junk. This action was aggressive, and I do not support it.

But I understand.

To the OP, I really do sympathize with you. I have completely oblivious, inconsiderate, and disrespectful slobs as neighbors too (see here).

ummm someone could have called the cops on the noisy lights, usually a visit from them stops them past a reasonable hour (10 pm here).

I like the cutting of the wires better. It's common sense not to do that, therefore that got what they deserved.

Perfect solution!

Move somewhere besides an apartment.

They are communal living with a bit of added privacy at best. They suck! Yes, I am aware that it's not always possible to move, but I know I got the heck out of apartments long ago and have no plans on ever going back.

Don't you think we'd all simply buy houses if we could. It's not possible at this time. It costs so much money, money I don't have.
