I would not leave the door unlocked. I can't even believe they would ask you to do that!!
Just as an aside, remember to remove/hide your valuables. Years ago, they were replacing toilets in our apartment and I came home at lunch to check on things, and found all the apartment doors wide open, not a worker in sight. I forgot to put away my jewelry box. The only valuable thing in there disappeared.
I also think about paperwork with important numbers, etc.

I'd call and check if it were me. With crime the way it is now a days...I'd want to confirm their "appointment" especially with the "leave the key" suggestion. Just sayin....

I agree... that leave the key outside or the door unlocked sounds very strange & suspicious!
