You can ay that "you agreed to" if you like. The reality far more likely is that
the lease reverted to a M2M tenancy much as most leases do everywhere.
(check with NY law to be sure)
... isn't worth the paper it isn't written on.
Your LL can send you a written to notice to vacate any time they like.
They have to give you 30 days notice and may have to do the 30 days based
on the payment cycle... but that's about all they have to do.
The flip side is that you don't have to give more than a 30 day notice to leave.
So... if he owner is serious about selling then you better get serious about looking
for a new place to move to BEFORE they force your hand and certainly before weather gets bad.
