I just moved to San Antonio and my complex had left a fan of some sort on my living room floor. After moving in (the other day), I didn't return it because they are coming to paint this weekend and I assumed they needed it for that. This morning, I noticed it was gone?? Which means someone came and removed it :l not a big deal, but makes me wonder what else they can randomly come in for. When I lived in CA, advance notice was required for entry unless it was an emergency... It just kind of freaked me out...
I can't speak to TX specifically, but most states require some sort of advanced notice unless an emergency. 24 hours is standard, but again, not sure about TX.
In Texas, the law sets a standard that 24 hours notice must be given for non emergency repair or inspection entry into a leased space. If there is smoke or running water, no notice is needed.
It sounds like one of the workers left his fan and went and got it. You weren't home so he went in and got it. Innocent enough but not really legal.

Yea, the more I think about it, that's probably all it was. It just sketched me out because I'd only been here a couple days and then someone came in while I was gone. To be fair, none of my stuff (furniture, boxes etc) has arrived yet so it probably looked like the unit was still unoccupied. I'm a single female living alone though so it really creeped me out for a couple days, and I've been paranoid all week. Thanks for the info on the 24 hours, that makes me feel better!!
I'm thinking it was just a one time thing. The guy probably got into to trouble for leaving the fan. I'm thinking it won't happen again. In the future, if they do any work and leave things behind just put them outside your door and call the office. We had a maintenance worker leave a ladder when they were fixing our ceiling. I put it outside my front door and called. They picked it up right away without having to come in again.
I wouldn't hesitate to let the property management know of this issue if you already hadn't. I would be pretty upset too if something like that happened to me. I would even go as far as grounds for breach of contract and terminate my lease. But if you like where you live and want to stay, then its still worth mentioning to the PM.
