I actually don't have issues with places I live, the place that I was asked to leave (my last apartment) I lived in over eight years. She was only asking me to leave because of her divorce. From what I know, the husband is still living in the apartment. I guess I have a lot of pent up anger towards her, for doing that to us at such an awful time, and in a nasty way, especially since I thought we were friends. Oh well, live and learn.
This current place I am only in because I had to take something quickly last year (after being kicked out of my apartment) and it was one of the few places available after Hurricane Sandy....I thought I would like it but there have been too many issues. Constant noise, washer backing up three times due to faulty pipes), ant infestation, leaky windows....etc.

don't worry I can handle a lot...after all on a daily base dealing with short sales, property management, and of course regular sales, I'm used to a lot of different clients and at times the stress level of clients run up high...than it will all settle down after people get to have time and realize that not everything goes the way they want things to go and some issues have to be handled by both sides giving and taking and not just taking by one party...and unfortunately often one party has to give a little bit more...
Overall in the end we have many happy customers and many hugs when a deal is done.
With property management it is a different when an owner and/or tenants have no clue about the laws but feel they know it all and when they are not open to understand that the law need to be obeyed unless both parties come to an agreement.
To avoid issues for the future we advise all owners to go by what the law is stating about an issue since we as property managers have no other option or we opening ourselves up to lawsuits under the Fair Housing Law.
I totally understand that you feel the previous owner was a friend and that is also one of the main issues why people get upset since people tend to let the other party to believe they are friends but in the end it is business deal and it has to be handled like that.
A month to month tenancy is nice so you can move quickly but the other side is you can be given notice and have to leave in the same time frame and therefore I always explain to both parties that some convenience comes also with a higher risk ...in he case of being month to month.
We are friendly to all tenants and owners but we like to keep it "business" since a little thing can make people change overnight and often it happens due to relationship issue or financial issue.
