Palmetto bugs and mosquitoes aren't bad here...I don't know why people always say that. I've lived here for over 35 ys and the last time I saw a palmetto bug I was about 12 yrs old and out in a rural area of the county. As for the mosquitoes...they aren't that bad either...unless you're out in the swampy areas, which I am not.

I didn't mind paying the pet fee...it wasn't that much and I wasn't about to give up my pets so I paid it.

We were the same way about scorpions; in twenty years, we saw ONE outside of the Desert Museum.

There's a large LARGE black bug in Tucson (one of the borers) called a palo verde beetle. They sound like a tiny helicopter going by, and they resemble the palmetto bugs. Mosquitoes are pretty much everywhere, and I apparently wear a well-lit FREE BUFFET sign for them wherever I go.

It seems only fair to refund the pet deposit if there is no damage or the tenant has ameliorated any damage from the pets. Same as people deposits.

Palmetto bugs just sounds like a cute name for over-sized beastly cockroaches.
Don't let that cute name fool you.
I've lived in Miami before, and those things look ugly as hell.
Palmetto bugs = Roaches the size of your hand

You should see the size of the spiders that eat the palmetto bugs
