I moved into a new home rent cost $800 a month with utilities at the back unit.
Recently, they are thinking to install a separate electric meter for me to have as my own and that I am responsible for the bill. I don't mind paying for my own bill but does this mean that my rent will reduce too?
How does this work because nothing is settle yet but just wondering if my rent will be cheaper if I start paying for my own bill. Do I ask them or wait for them to tell me?
If you are on a lease that says utilities are included then they can't separate them out and charge you more than the agreed amount combined, they can still separate them out. If you aren't on a lease then they can do whatever they want with the proper notice; basically they send you written notice that electricity will no longer be covered as part of your rent with 30-60 days notice depending on state law.
