I will be moving out of my apartment in a few days. It's on a month to month, the lease was up a year ago. I live in Las Vegas. I told the manager a few weeks ago, and she said since the rent cycle ends with the month I couldn't put in official notice until July, and I'll have to pay rent through July. I won't be living here anymore by July. Even the utilities will be turned off July 1. Can I just leave and not pay July? Or is there some repercussion to doing that?

You are only required to give a 30 day notice to end a month-to-month lease. However, the law allows a landlord to place in the lease (a month to month holdover is still govern by the terms of the original lease), that the 30 ays can be on a daily basis (30 days start the day you give notice) or on a lease rent payment basis (30 days starts on the next rent due date). So, what did the original lease state?

Chances are it is set up with the utilities to automaticly transfer them to the owner rather than actually shutting them off. If you did not sign a new lease when going month to month the terms of the original lease will apply. If you end up being on the hook for July's rent, you will also be on the hook for the July utilities the owner paid for. If you do not pay then at some point in time the owner will probably turn the account over to a collection agency. The first thing they will probably do is report it to the credit bureaus as past due.
