I will be renting a furnished condo for 30 days through VRBO. Is renter's insurance necessary for such a short stay? I've never had renter's insurance before (even in my current apartment where I've been for the last 14 years). Looking back, I know I should've had insurance but knock on wood, I've had no issues.

I don't have a lot of possessions at this time, I've sold off a ton of stuff. Moving cross country is much easier that way. Thanks for any advice.

For the 20-25 buck it costs...I'd say splurge. It's worth the piece of mind.

Think of the cost of replacing all your clothes and other items. Fire, water damage, severe weather, vandalism, whatever.

Liability issues as well. You fall asleep with the tub running or with something cooklng and you can be sued.

Even if for a short duration, it's worth the cost to get a 'replacement' policy. Meaning that items will be replaced at current value v. being depreciated.
