You need to grow up.
It's not shady.
If there is a waiting list for your studio and you can't commit to renew by the time you are asked to - you were offered some other unit. That apparently doesn't have a waiting list.
You act like this is a personal attack. It's obviously not if your LL is willing to keep you as a renter.
