You need to grow up.

It's not shady.

If there is a waiting list for your studio and you can't commit to renew by the time you are asked to - you were offered some other unit. That apparently doesn't have a waiting list.

You act like this is a personal attack. It's obviously not if your LL is willing to keep you as a renter.

Get over it.

You handed your lease off for "safekeeping"?

You can't keep your own personal documents "safe"?

I guarantee your tenants hate you with that kind of attitude.

I don't like to keep important documents in my studio apartment.

So if you feel your apartment isn't a safe depository for your lease then you put the original somewhere else and keep a copy with you. Much of this whole issue could have been avoided if you either knew the terms of your lease or had it to hand to answer relevant questions.

A copy of a lease isn't a birth certificate, a passport, a SS card....

Get a safety deposit box so you don't have to rely on others to keep watch over and retrieve your "important" documents for you.

I live in a downstairs apt and the apt above me the water line to the toilet burst and of course there was no one home and I woke up to water coming threw the ceiling. Well they let us live in a upstairs apt till they could get it renovated and cleaned up which took 2 months. I've been a good renter and lived in the same apt since 2002 my question is am I liable for the utilities in the temporary apt? I ask because the property management sent me a bill for electricity to pay them which I find unreasonable since it was no fault of mine that I had to move any comments would be much appreciated

You used it did you not? Why would you think that you weren't responsible for something you used? The two things, the damage to your apartment and the electricity in the other, aren't related.
