I'm not sure if this is a renting or a non-romantic relationship question, so I apologize if it's in the wrong place. Cliff notes on the background is I live in an area with a low vacancy rate, so last summer I decided to capitalize on that and start renting out the spare bedrooms in my house.

New Roommate seemed decent enough when I interviewed him, got a good "review" from his prior landlord of 4 years, clean background check, etc. However, since he moved in last month, comments here and there started to add up and the best I can describe it is he's mirroring me-basically, anything I say about my life, a day or two later he comes back with it applying to his life too.

Conversely, if I ask him to do something/tell him something about how the household is run, he does the opposite. Since someone will likely ask, I'm 40, he's 50.

Has anyone had experience with a roommate like this?

Finding the right room mate is HARDER than finding the right boy (or girl) friend.
With the BF who doesn't work out... you don't have keys & furniture issues.

It sounds pathological.

Life is too short to take time to sort out his issues.
Give him notice and get him out.

It's a relationship issue. You're not comfortable with it so simply give him notice and find a more suitable tenant. If he pays rent monthly you likely have to give him 30 days written notice, if weekly then seven days but you can check your state laws which you'll find linked in the first "sticky" on this forum. Good luck!

It is not easy lo live with someone like this, if you are not comfortable him then just get him out of your property.

I agree with the others who have said that if you don't like the guy, give him notice.

It's hard to find people you are comfortable living with - even if you love them.

Thanks for the replies. Luckily for me, my state doesn't require a reason for giving notice to terminate month-to-month agreements, however, it does have to be timed to correspond with the end of the rental period so I'll have to wait until next month.
