I'm wondering why real estate agents routinely leave lock boxes behind after a property is sold or rented. Not only are some of them expensive (and brand new), they still have keys inside. In large condo complexes in CA, there can literally be a dozen of them attached to pipes or fence railings for years if the HOA doesn't bother to remove them with bolt cutters or saws. Are they just considered a cost of doing business and not worth retrieving? Is there no liability if someone breaks into one and accesses the property? It must get confusing if a lockbox for an active listing isn't marked in some way, and it is next to six others just like it.

It's trend... not worth the effort because the sale has been made and commission paid.
