Hello, my mother and I rent an apartment together. She is on section 8, and we live in a low income apartment complex. Since I was 18 I was put on the lease and all my income has been recorded, since I have a paycheck with paystub. My mother is self employed, and thus hides some of her income in her boyfriends account to get around paying more rent. She is threatening to kick me out if I tell the housing authorities what she has done/been doing... I do not have strong knowledge on the matter. Any input, or suggestions are appreciated. Thank you.

Your mother is committing a crime. A felony in my state. What is your question?

Dear Samanfa, how old are you? Sounds to me like you and your mother have been living together *waaaay* too long.

Why are you even thinking of telling the housing authority what she's doing?

To answer your question, your mother can't remove you from the lease unless both you and the landlord agree to your name being taken off it. The only authority the housing authority has is to shut off the assistance if they investigate and find out that your mother is indeed ineligible for the program. If that happens then you'll either have to pay full market rent for the unit until the lease has expired or, if the complex is strictly for qualifying low-income residents, you may be forced to leave before the lease's expiration.
