It is troublesome because I say it is. I am moving to a new city thousands of miles away for a new job. No friends, no family, no acquaintances. Informing the landlord of my absence is no problem. To bother an acquaintance of mine to check on the house is something I would rather not impose upon them.
Hire a house sitter to come in and check your place for you. My snowbird neighbors use a service that comes in once a week.

Our HOA as well as landlord, require us to have the unit while empty. It can be someone from the HOA, the landlord, or someone I choose...as long as the landlord has their contact info and my out of town info.

When I go out of town I shut off/turn off whatever I can to avoid accidents.

Kim, your situation is a little different as you're gone for extended periods. The lease requirement here is four or more days which is, in my opinion, real overkill. It's not a normal clause and my bet is that this LL (or PMC) threw in the clause after a bad experience with a tenant.

Just got an e-mail back from the Landlord. Without giving a reason for including this specific clause, she removed the requirement for inspection.

Thanks for the help everyone!
