Does anyone know in Florida can you break the rental lease if there is a death in one of the tenants whose name is on the lease. If it's an elderly couple then one of them dies and the surviving person can't afford the teeth ny any longer.

The lease should describe the responsibilities of any remaining tenant or what costs might apply.
Still, it wouldn't hurt to ask for some consideration beyond that minimum.

Normally the lease stands. It would be like that other person moved away and stopped paying. Hopefully your LL is a understanding person.

The remaining tenant needs to read their lease in regards to early termination. The lease doesn't go away because one of the holders die.....the remaining tenant can choose to stay, find another roommate or terminate the lease according to the early termination clause in the lease.

What they do need to worry about is utilities held in the former tenant's name....they need to move to the surviving tenant (if applicable)

Just speak to the landlord and see what they say. They might let you out.
